ART EDUCATION
Elementary

Habitat Assemblage
Artists are inspired by nature and create art to investigate, respond to, and communicate ideas about the natural world, such as habitats. We are going to learn what a habitat is and pick 1 of 5 animals to create one for!

Perfect Fit Puppets
We will learn about relationship skills through shapes. The Perfect Fit by Naomi Jones shows us how we have unique skills and perspectives. After we listen to the book, we will use stencils to create geometric shapes that will turn into characters we create.

Hybrid Animals
Many artists expand on things they observe to create something completely new. This project will challenge students to envision how two different real animals could come together to create a new one. We will read Kevin Diller and Justin Lowe’s book Hello my Name is Octicorn.

Tell a Story
Art is used to tell stories. We are going to look at Asiru Olatunde’s work The Story of Osogbo as inspiration for story telling/creating a narrative. While his story is a legend we will look for a real story in our own life that we can share. We will create a 3 panel drawing of our story and choose one of the panels to deboss/emboss.
